| He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1995. He graduated from Hehai University in 1953. He got his doctor's degree from Moscow University of Architectural Engineering in 1960. He has been engaging in the study of soil mechanics theory and its application in engineering practice for a long time. He put forward the theory of soil mass limit and proved two limit principles. In the theoretic study of soil elastoplasticity, he put forward the multiple-yield surface concept and built a new and practical constitutive model of soil mass elastoplasticity. He founded the basic framework of unsaturated soil consolidation theory and put forward the idea of establishing modern soil mechanics. He has made great contributions to China's geotechnical engineering cause. He is former deputy director of the Special Committee of Geotechnics and Soil Mechanics of the China Society of Mechanics. At present, he is a supervisor of doctoral candidatesin the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering of Nanjing Academy of Hydro Science, and editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering. |
