| He was elected a member of the academic committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1980. In January 1963, he succeeded in the replantation of a full cut-off right hand and he started the study of replantation surgery. He was viewed as the founder of replantation of cut-off limbs by the international medical circle. He applied the microsurgery techniques to replantation and grafting surgeries which raised the rate of success of cut-off finger replantation from 50% to 90%. Afterwards, he operated some pretty difficult pioneering operations, such as the replantation of the bloody nerve dissociative pectoralis major, inosculate blood vessel splinter bone replantation and compound skin flap replantation. In 1985, he was elected as chairman of the Ninth International Society of Micro-reconstruction Surgery. He has successively served as vice president of the Shanghai No. 6 People’s Hospital, director and professor of the orthopaedics department of Zhongshan Hospital of Shanghai Medical University and an academician of the 3rd International Academy of Sciences. |
