| He was elected one of the first members of the academic committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1955. In the 1930s, he compiled and wrote The Analysis Method of Soil, which propelled the development of China's soil analytical chemistry. He has made a systematic study of the situation of phosphor and kalium in China's soil, and China's red soil, which was highly valued by the soil science circle home and abroad. He had made great contributions to the study of the development and reasonable fertilization of suitable lands for tropical crops (such as rubber). He has successively served as honorary president of the Nanjing Institute of Soil Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of the executive council of the China Society of Soil Science, the 4th vice chairman of International Society of Soil Science.
His work, China's Red Soil, is collected in "Local Literature Collection of Works by Celebrities of Ningbo Natives"of the Ningbo Municipal Library.
