| He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 1996. He is the founder of China's hemopoietic stem cell (including bone marrow) transplantation and a key propellent of this undertaking. In the 1960s, he successfully cured serious patient of aplastic anemia by using isogenic bone marrow transplantation and he set two world records of smallest number of cells, namely, in the case of bone marrow provided by pregnant women and reconstructed bone marrow. In the 1980s, he created 6 world records, such as a radical cure of anemia and inherited agammaglobulinemia by bone marrow transplantation, and it was he who first found and proved that acute early myelocyte leukaemia can be cured by only using arsenic sulphide in the world. In addition, he is one of the founders of the study of China's hemorrhage and cruor diseases. At present, he serves as director of the Insitute of Blood Research of Beijing Medical University and vice chairman of the Chinese Medical Association. |
