| He was elected a member of the academic committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1980. In decades, he committed himself to the study of the heredity and breeding of cereal polyploids, and cultivated heterogenous octuple triticale, which was regarded as the new type of wheat in the future all over the world. It was because of him that China became the first country to spread the application of this breed in the world. The study over which he presided rice homologous tetraploid breeding was ranked at the leading position in the world. Due to his outstanding and remarkable achievements, he was conferred with the National Science Confrence Award in 1978. He was former deputy director of the Institute of Breeding and Cultivation of Crops of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science, director of the China Society of Genetics, and vice chairman of the International Association of Triticale. His work, Cereal Homologous Polyploid and Amphiploid, is collected in "Local Literature Collection of Works by Celebrities of Ningbo Natives"of the Ningbo Municipal Library. |
