| He was elected as the first batch of academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was graduated from Nanjing Engineering College (now Southeast University) in 1961. He first applied the association function to the input of Chinese characters. He was the first chief engineer of the Computer Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Legend Group. He took charge of the development of Legend Chinese character system and Legend PC series. He won the first prize of National Award of Science and Technology Advancement twice, first in 1988, and then in 1992. The Legend Group was started by successfully developing the Legend Chinese character system and hence its name. At present, he is deputy president of the executive council of China Chinese Information Association and supervisor of doctoral students。
His work, Artificial Intelligence, is collected in "Local Literature Collection of Works by Celebrities of Ningbo Natives"of the Ningbo Municipal Library.
