Successfully Sponsored "2002 Zhejiang (Ningbo) Exhibition and Negotiation Fair of High and New Technology Achievements of Key Universities Throughout the Country"

        According to the requirements of the overall plan of the 4th Zhejiang Investment and Trade Fair, in order to promote the implementation of the strategy of "rejuvenating the province by relying on science and technology" and the State 10th Five-Year Plan, we held the 2002 Zhejiang (Ningbo) Exhibition and Negotiation Fair of High and New Technology Achievements of Key Universities Throughout the Country (hereafter referred as High and New Exhibition) from June 8 to 12, 2002. Sponsored by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government and Science and Technology Department of Zhejiang Provincial Government and undertaken by the Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau, the High and New Exhibition began in the afternoon of June 8th and ended on the 12th day of the same month. 26 key universities and research institutes took part in the High and New Exhibition, including Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Weaponry, Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University, Science and Technology University of China, and Sino-Russian High and New Technology Industrialization Center etc. Besides, some experts from Russia, Germany and Japan were invited to the exhibition into which 2,500 items of high and new technology achievements were brought for negotiation and exchange. Sheng Changli, deputy governor of Zhejiang province, Lv Guorong, vice mayor of Ningbo, leaders from the Science and Technology Department of the Provincial People's Government, representatives from Science and Technology Bureaus of different cities all over Zhejiang province. In the exhibition, there were 37 programs signed, with 27 fallen into Ningbo, and 10 into other cities. The total signed amount reached 80 million yuan. And 268 letters of intention were signed.

Actively Taking Part in the 5th "China Beijing International Science and Technology Expo"

        The 5th "China Beijing International Science and Technology Expo" was held in Beijing International Exhibition Center from May 23 to 28. Wang Yongkang led a delegation of 150 people and took part in the Expo with more than 100 high and new technology products. Letters of intention were signed, and the total amount of these letters of intention reached nearly 100 million yuan. 15,000 people visited the exhibition area of Ningbo and more than 10,000 copies of publicity materials were given out. Besides, we started science and technology cooperation with Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University.

Organizing and Taking Part in the 4th High and New Technology Achievements Exhibition

        The 4th High and New Technology Achievements Exhibition was held in Shenzhen China International High and New Technology Achievement Fair Exhibition Center from October 12 to 17, 2002. Under the organization of the Foreign Commerce and Trade Bureau of Ningbo and Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau, some enterprises from Ningbo participated the exhibition. Wang Yongkang, deputy secretary-general of Lingbo Municipal People's Government led the governmental delegation and attended the exhibition. 16 enterprises took part in the exhibition which got some orders worth of 30 million US dollars in the exhibition.

Successfully Organized "Wuhan Exhibition Fair of Ningbo Products & Talks on Science and Technology and Tourism Programs"

        Exhibition Fair of Ningbo's Products (Wuhan) & Talks on Science and Technology and Tourism Programs was held in Wuhan International Exhibition Center from April 18 to 21. As part of the series activities of the "Wuhan Ningbo Products Exhibition", the delegation in charge of science and technology affairs, consisted of 60 people from the science and technology bureaus at the county-level and led by the Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau, conducted comprehensive exchanges, negotiations with higher learning institutions in Wuhan on the introduction of high and new technology and co-constructed technology development organizations, and some on-the-spot inspection tours were made. In the exhibition, 8 science and technology cooperation programs were signed in the signing ceremony of Ningbo-Wuhan Commerce, Science & Technology and Tourism Cooperation, and a batch of letters of intention of S&T cooperation were reached.

Successfully Organized "Science &Technology Inspection Group of Peking University's Doctoral Candidates to Ningbo"

        The Inspection Group from Peking University came to Ningbo for inspection from May 13 to 17. The group was made up of 29 people. On behalf of the Ningbo Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the Ningbo Municipal Government, Zheng Jieming, deputy secretary of the Ningbo Committee of the Chinese Communist Party met the group and a banquet was held in honor of the group. Leaders from the science and technology bureau, the personnel bureau, the education bureau, and the High-tech Park attended the meeting.

Ningbo Inspection Group went to Jiangxi and Anhui to do economic and technological cooperation.

        Ningbo Municipal Government that we should work in the development of the west region, we actively organized the S&T cooperation between Ningbo and Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces, implemented some cooperation programs, and conducted negotiations on S&T programs. An S&T sub-group organized by NSTB, together with the Inspection Group from the Ningbo Municipal Government, went to Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces to make inspection tours and negotiations from July 8 to 12. The S&T sub-group was led by Yu Lei, deputy director of NSTB and made up of the leaders from Beilun, Yuyao, and Ninghai Science and Technology Bureaus and relevant enterprises. After several day's inspection and negotiations, the sub-group reached a preliminary cooperation agreement over 10 science and technology programs. August 4 to 10, the signing ceremony of 10 S&T cooperation programs were held in Jiangxi and Anhui separately. Huang Xingguo, secretary of the Ningbo Committee of the Chinese Communist Party led a delegation and attended the signing ceremony.
